"The Curious Mind" - New event at the LIMES Institute

Monday 25.11.13 saw the launch of a new seminar series, where a common theme is presented from different disciplines.

Ignited by scientific curiosity and the delight of cross-discipline discussions, Prof. Michael Hoch, Executive Director of the LIMES Institute and Dr. Reinhard Lutz, Chancellor of the University of Bonn, created a new concept for a seminar series entitled "The Curious Mind".

A selected group of professors and other university members joined the first event on Monday, titled "Coding and Decoding". The theme was examined from four different disciplines:

Prof. Horst Bleckmann (Zoology )
Prof. Markus Nöthen (Human Genetics)
Dr. Gisela Fehrmann (Intercultural communication and multilingualism research)
Prof. Erik Fischer (Musikwissenschaft/Sound Studies)

A special feature of the new series is to incorporate an artistic aspect to the program. At the opening event, Anja Stadler, enthusiastic Culture Director of the University of Bonn, delivered a reading  "A Report to an Academy" by Franz Kafka - literature that fit in very well with the theme of the evening (a "has-been ape" stepped up to the lectern and reported to an academy about his "previous life as an ape").

Also present were some of the most talented students and young researchers. The evening was filled with colorful discussion about the theme across multiple-disciplines and generations.
